Soowon Seo tends to think outside the box and tailors her teaching methods to the needs of her students. She believes every student needs to be taught differently depending on their needs, and aspires to bring out the best in her students by honoring their needs and capabilities. Soowon is passionate about teaching, and enjoys the opportunity to share the joy of music.
Soowon was born in Seoul, Korea and started piano at the age of five with strict expectations. Under the influence of her aunt who was also a pianist, her music career began at Yewon Arts Middle School, one of the leading art schools in Korea, followed by Seoul Arts High School where she specialised in piano performance.
She cemented her career as a pianist when she attended Yonsei University in Seoul graduating in piano performance, and later Northwestern University in the United States, where under the guidance of James Giles and Marcia Bosits, Soowon graduated with a Master of Music in performance and pedagogy.
Upon graduating in the USA, Soowon worked as part of the piano faculty at the Music Academy of Chicago, Terra Sounds School of Music & Arts, Martha’s Piano Studio. Soowon also taught group keyboard classes at Lubavitch Girls High School, Northwestern University, and other schools.
Aside from teaching Soowon has also performed around the country with the Chicago Children's Choir and performed as a concert pianist for the Stargate Music Production.
